East and westbound lanes of I-10 reopened after deadly rollover

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Both east and westbound lanes of traffic on Interstate 10, southeast of Tucson near Kolb Road are open to travel.  According to the Arizona Department of Transportation all lanes are open. There may be some residual slowing through the area, said ADOT officials, which should only last a short while.

An early morning rollover crash killed two people on I-10 near Kolb Road.  Traffic is still slow in the area. Drivers advised to use caution when traveling in the area.  There is no word yet on when the two remaining lanes of both east and westbound travel will reopen.

The Arizona Department of Transportation initially closed down travel in both east and westbound directions around 4 a.m. this morning, after the accident occurred.

According to Rural/Metro a semi, traveling westbound on I-10 veered off the road, possibly into oncoming eastbound traffic, and rolled over; a car traveling eastbound hit the semi. Both vehicles then caught fire, said Rural/Metro officials.  The driver from both the car and the semi were killed in the crash, said officials.

Multiple agencies were on the scene, including Rural/Metro and the Department of Public Service. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
