Food stored on the floor lands Chinese restaurant on critical list

Posted: Updated:
RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

Storing some food on the floor landed a Richmond Chinese restaurant on the critical list in this Restaurant Report.

We went over to Yum Restaurant at 406 Cowardin Avenue in Richmond. It's last health inspection report showed 4 critical violations, including that two types of food were stored on the floor. The report says bagged onions were on the floor in dry storage, and some fish was being stored on the floor of the walk-in cooler. The Health Department requires all food to be stored at least 6 inches off the floor to prevent it from being contaminated or infiltrated by pests.

We spoke with Yum's owner through an employee who interpreted for us. They chose not to show us their kitchen, but told us that all violations have been corrected.

Up next, Knockout Cheese Steak inside Chesterfield Towne Center had 6 critical violations. Among them, the report says chili was not being kept hot enough, and tomatoes in a cooler were not cold enough. When the inspector returned a week later, Knockout had knocked out most of the problems, but tomatoes in the cooler and sliced chicken near the grill were not kept cold enough. They were told to move them to a fridge.

And in Hanover, Jade Chinese Restaurant at 10180 Lakeridge Parkway had 5 critical, plus 11 non-critical. The inspector noted a large amount of fruit flies in the dishwashing area around the drain and stacks of soiled equipment and utensils. Some violations were corrected on the spot. Others were fixed when the inspector returned, except for one, which was also fixed.
