Chicopee woman falls victim to phone scam

Posted: Updated:

Widespread phone scams have been targeting Western Massachusetts residents for months and now a Chicopee woman has come forward saying she's fallen victim.

Police tell CBS 3 a caller told the woman she was eligible for a grant, but needed to send more than $1,000 in prepaid MoneyPak cards to cover fees.

The woman sent those cards in and the next day was contacted by a caller in New York saying an additional $2,300 was needed.

At that point she called police.

Police say never wire money to anyone claiming you won money.
