WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

A pedestrian was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a car on a Route 5 rotary.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the rotary near the Memorial Bridge just after 1 p.m.

A female driver struck a male pedestrian as he was crossing the exit ramp from Route 5 southbound. Police officials on scene said the driver will most likely be cited for the accident.

Multiple children were inside the car that struck the pedestrian.

Traffic was backed up coming off the Route 5 northbound exit near the Memorial Bridge and around the rotary.

The victim was unconscious when police arrived and he was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to West Springfield police officials.
