Investigators are on scene after a person was struck and killed by a train in Salisbury Wednesday afternoon.
It happened around 1 p.m. between Monroe Street and Military Avenue. Officials said the victim, 49-year-old Kelly Scott Daniels, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police told WBTV that the train was traveling north when personnel saw Daniels walking in the same direction on the tracks. They immediately sounded the horn several times, but said that Daniels did not respond.
Officials said that Daniels was wearing headphones at the time of the incident.
WBTV has learned that the train involved was from the City of Durham, a passenger train that runs between Raleigh and Charlotte as part of the NCDOT rails system.
Investigators said that the train continued to Raleigh once the tracks were cleared. It was delayed for just under two hours.
