A man charged with shooting and killing a driver on Interstate 24 in Smyrna was in court Wednesday.
Police said Edgar Domonique Covington shot and killed Jackie Warpoole while the two were driving next to each other last December.
Covington's girlfriend was driving the car that day. She said Warpoole drove behind them and started flashing his lights and honking his horn. He wanted them to pull over, but they didn't.
Covington's girlfriend testified that Warpoole eventually drove past them, made an obscene gesture and flicked his cigarette at the car.
She said Covington then rolled down the window and opened fire.
Police said Warpoole died at the side of the interstate from his injuries.
Covington's case is going to the grand jury. A hearing date has not yet been set.
