Much like other colleges in Massachusetts, Greenfield Community College has had a no tolerance drugs and alcohol policy installed since 1988. But they don't have a specific policy regarding medical marijuana. With talks of a dispensary entering town, the school might need to update their policy.
But school officials say their policy won't change, but they do need to educate their students about medical marijuana.
Director of student development at GCC, Judy Raper, said no students have come forward requesting permission to use medical marijuana. The committee does review policies, programs and practices on a yearly basis to make sure everything is set in the best interest of students.
"There is not currently any kind of consideration being given to change our alcohol or drug policy. However, we may need to do a different type of job on educating students on what it means," said Raper.
