The TBI has obtained indictments for a Smyrna man accused of having a sexual relationship with a minor.

TBI special agents began investigating 20-year-old Jacob Belcher on May 27. They said Belcher developed an inappropriate relationship between October of 2013 and March of 2014 with an underage girl he met online.

The relationship allegedly culminated on several occasions with sexual activity at or near the girl's family's home in Jackson County.

Monday, the Jackson County Grand Jury returned an indictment for Belcher, charging him with five counts of statutory rape.

Belcher turned himself in Friday at the Jackson County Jail. He was booked and subsequently released after posting a $5,000 bond.
