Amherst police to crack down on underage drinking

Posted: Updated:

The Amherst Police Department will soon be launching a campaign cracking down on underage drinking.

A department spokesperson told CBS 3 that they will launch additional patrols on Labor Day weekend as part of the crackdown.

Police will focus on areas of town that have historically experienced high incidents of alcohol law violations.

The campaign is funded by a grant provided by the state's Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

In the 2014 fiscal year, Amherst police charged over 300 people with being minors in possession of alcohol.
