Three men assaulted and robbed a lone victim outside of a convenience store before getting in a car and shooting at him as they drove away Monday morning, police said.
On Tuesday, the Chicopee Police Department issued an arrest warrant for Aris Alex Bermudez for armed robbery, attempted murder and assault and battery. Bermudez turned himself in to law enforcement officials on Thursday and is being held on $150,000 bail.
According to Chicopee police Detective Timothy Foley, Bermudez is a 31-year-old Hispanic man standing 5' 11" tall and weighing about 155 pounds. He has a tattoo with Chinese symbols on the right side of his neck and has the word 'Aris' on the left side of his neck.
Bermudez has ties to Chicopee, Holyoke and Springfield and should be considered armed and dangerous, Foley said.
Police responded to the report of shots fired near 47 Meetinghouse Rd. just after 11 a.m. Police spoke with the male victim who said he was "jumped" by three Hispanic males at Manny's Market, according to police officials.
When the victim exited the store the three suspects began to argue with him. The men then started to beat the victim and stole his keys, police said.
The suspects got into their vehicle and drove off, but not before the driver pulled out a gun and shot at the victim, police said.
The victim was not hit by any gunfire, but his gold Dodge Ram pickup truck was struck.
Investigating officers canvassed the area and located the suspect vehicle on Elcon Drive. The vehicle was towed for processing, according to an arrest report.
The incident, which includes charges for attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and armed robbery, was being investigated by the Chicopee Police Department Detective Bureau.
