STURBRIDGE, MA (WSHM) -

Texting and driving is being blamed for a crash that left an elderly bicyclist seriously injured.

Sturbridge police say the 66-year-old woman was riding her bike on Route 15 near Leadmine Road on Monday morning when she was struck by a 17-year-old driver.

Police say the teen was using his phone when his car drifted into the breakdown lane and hit the cyclist.

She was life-flighted to UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester in serious condition.

The teenager is being charged with distracted driving among other charges.
