Game and Fish seeks suspects using helicopter to harass antelope

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Arizona Game and Fish Department officials are investigating reports of people using a helicopter to harass wildlife in Yavapai County.

Archery hunters sent the department multiple reports on Aug. 22 and 23 saying they witnessed a helicopter with unique markings and tail numbers repeatedly chasing, herding and harassing antelope in the northeastern part of a Game Management Unit.

The Arizona Game and Fish Commission and federal wildlife statutes prohibit the use of any aircraft to harass, herd or purposely move wildlife, according to a news release.

“The Arizona Game and Fish Department takes these types of complaints seriously and will investigate any misuse of aircraft,” Game and Fish Kingman Regional Supervisor Tom Finley stated. “The herding or harassing of wildlife is unfair, unethical and illegal, and it poses a danger to the public.”

The department served a search warrant for the helicopter and its GPS at a ranch headquarters in northern Yavapai County but no charges were filed.

The investigation is ongoing.
