Posted: Updated:

Police arrested two people in connection with shots fired in Holyoke on Thursday night.

Lt. Jim Albert tells CBS 3 that witnesses saw a blue Jeep leave the area of 110 Tokeneke Road at 7 p.m. on Thursday after firing shots.

A CBS 3 crew on the scene says witnesses told them they heard four to five shots before the Jeep took off toward Whiting Farms Road.

The vehicle, occupied by two people, was later found parked at Main and Meadow Streets. Police observed someone getting out of the car and gave chase to a Hispanic male, later identified as Anthony Perez, 22, of Holyoke.

Perez was arrested along with the driver, 35-year-old Wilmarie Hernandez, also of Holyoke.

Inside the vehicle, police found a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson semi-automatic handgun and a large amount of heroin.

Both Perez and Hernandez were arrested on a number of charges, including carrying or possession of a firearm without a license, possession of firearm ammunition with an FID card, possession of carrying a loaded firearm and possession of class A drugs.

Holyoke Police were assisted by a number of members of the FBI Western Massachusetts Gang Task Force and Massachusetts State Troopers.
