A Springfield man was arrested Monday night after a family found him rummaging through their garage looking for items to steal, according to police officials.
Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney told CBS 3 that officers responded to 147 Manchester Terrace after someone called 911 about 10 p.m. and reported the incident.
"The family quickly closed the door and trapped him like a rat going after cheese," Delaney said.
Police arrived on scene and arrested Matthew Tannen, 25, of 26 Athens St., Springfield, and charged him with breaking and entering at night for a felony, Delaney said.
Tannen was wearing a probation ankle bracelet that was flashing red when police apprehended him. The device was activated because he was not home in time for his 10 p.m. curfew, Delaney said.
