Witnesses called emergency crews when they heard the animals in distress on Wednesday afternoon.
A maintenance worker from Keller Court Apartments was involved in the rescue. Patrick Patterson laid on top of a skateboard and made his way more than 50 feet down the storm drain.
Tuscumbia police and firefighters arrived on the scene to assist. After a few hours, all seven puppies were reunited with their mother.
Patterson said there's no way they could have left the pups down there.
"I mentioned it to the boss this morning," Patterson said. "We had already tried once with a skateboard and only got about 25 feet in there. The mosquitoes were really bad and that's why we backed out, so we got mosquito spray and a skateboard and rope and did the deed."
One of the maintenance workers took the dogs home and kept watch on them until their owners were located. One thing is confirmed, their "awe factor" is through the roof.
