BULLHEAD CITY, AZ (CBS5) -
Hundreds of people from all over the Bullhead City area came to a site near where 8-year-old Isabella Grogan-Cannella's body was found to pay their respects Thursday night.
About 400 people lit candles, prayed and released balloons in memory of Isabella. Bullhead City police said the girl's mother reported her missing early Tuesday morning. Wednesday, a body was discovered in a shallow grave just a few blocks from the girl's home.
"She was a beautiful, very ambitious young lady and she didn't deserve this," Isabella's grandmother Toni Page said.
"All we can do is go on and wish for the best and have her in our prayer and our hearts the whole time. All these people are standing here for my granddaughter, and that's an awesome thing. It's a beautiful thing," she said.
Isabella's classmates and her teacher were also there.
"She was my best friend since first grade," Sophia Montenegro said.
Sophia created a poster to honor her friend and brought it to the vigil.
"I miss you so much. You were the best for ever and ever," Sophia read from the poster.
Bullhead City Police Chief Brian Williamson confirmed the body was the missing girl Thursday afternoon.
Police announced the arrest of 26-year-old Justin James Rector, a family friend. He was booked in the Mohave County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and kidnapping.
