Body found near UMass campus believed to be missing Amherst woman

State and local police are investigating after a body was located near a wooded area along the UMass campus Tuesday.

The body found was believed to be that of Marissa Jackson, a 26-year-old Amherst woman who went missing Friday night, according to Mary Carey, Communications Director for the Northwestern District Attorney's Office.

Police could be seen investigating near the corner of University Drive and Amity Street, which was blocked off by police about 11 a.m.

The death remains under investigation by Amherst police, UMass police and state police assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office.

The cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Jackson was last seen about 10:30 p.m. Friday walking near her Belchertown Road apartment complex in Amherst.
