SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) - Springfield police arrested a man who allegedly stabbed two females on Saturday morning.

According to Sgt. John Delaney of the Springfield Police Department, officers responded to 60 Belmont Ave around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday to settle a dispute between first and second floor tenants that began arguing over dog feces found on the rear stairs in the side yard.

After officers contacted the landlord to assist with code violations they vacated the scene and were called back before 11 a.m. and arrested 33-year-old Michael Valentin.

Witnesses told police that Valentin had stabbed two women.

A 46-year-old female resident had been stabbed several times in the back and her 23-year-old daughter has been stabbed in the face and neck area. Both were transported to a local hospital and are in stable condition.

Detectives later found a large kitchen knife that was assumed to be used during the attack.

Valentin is being charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, mayhem and two counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon. He will be arraigned in Springfield District Court on Monday morning.
