SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) - A man who was stabbed multiple times in an apartment complex in the city's McKnight neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon has died.

Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney said the homicide was not a random crime and that detectives believe the victim knew his assailant.

Police were on scene at the Bergen Circle Towers apartment complex after two men were stabbed on the seventh floor around 1 p.m. on Tuesday. The Springfield Police Department Forensic Investigation Unit arrived on scene shortly after.

The victim who was killed was a 23-year-old male who did not live at the apartment complex, Delaney said.

His name will not be released until Wednesday, according to Delaney.

Police have not yet made an arrest, but they say they are questioning witnesses and reviewing evidence.

Police say the suspect was a black male who was wearing a green shirt. He was last seen fleeing the area following the stabbings.

Both victims were transported to an area hospital following the altercation. The second victim remains in stable condition.

This was Springfield's fifteenth homicide of 2014.
