Firefighters in Ludlow are battling a fully involved two-story house fire on East Street that is creating clouds of smoke that are visible from the Mass Pike.
The Ludlow Fire Department arrived on scene in the area of 900 East St. shortly after 11 a.m. and began attacking the fire from multiple sides of the house. East Street is closed in the area of the fire and officials have asked that motorists avoid that road.
Ludlow Fire Chief Mark Babineau told CBS 3 that nobody was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. He said he is currently unaware of the cause of the fire.
The fire was called in by an alert neighbor. The house is the oldest within a group of homes on the property that are all owned by one family.
Babineau said the roof collapsed and the house is a total loss. The fire is under control, but firefighters are working to get to parts of the house that are still burning.
The Wilbraham Fire Department is on scene assisting the Ludlow Fire Department.
CBS 3 Springfield has a crew on the way and will bring you updates as more information is made available.
