Officials identify victim of fatal car accident in Belchertown

One person has died and another was hospitalized following a single-car accident in Belchertown on Saturday morning.

The female victim who died as a result of crash was identified as 18-year-old Keely Walsh, of Lancaster, according to Mary Carey, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney's office. 

Belchertown Police Detective John Raymer said that at approximately 6 a.m., Massachusetts State Police reported a single car crash on State Street. Officers arriving on scene located a 1993 Red Honda Civic nearly 100 yards south of the Belchertown Police Department. The vehicle was off the roadway and had apparently struck multiple trees.

Belchertown Fire assisted on scene providing jaws-of-life to extract the victims while EMS worked to remove and treat the occupants of the vehicle.

Walsh was found dead on first-responders arrival. The 23-year-old male driver was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield via air transport.

Both victims in the vehicle were from Central Massachusetts.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the Belchertown Police Department, Massachusetts State Accident Reconstruction Unit and the Northwestern District Attorney's office.
