Crossing guard fatally struck by vehicle West Springfield

A crossing guard was hit by a car near Garden and Elm streets while assisting students who attend Coburn Elementary School cross the street. She later died from the injuries she sustained in the accident. WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Two victims were struck by cars in separate accidents that occurred within hours of each other on Elm Street on Monday morning.

The second accident, which was reported shortly before 11 a.m., occurred in the area of the West Springfield Post Office.

The first accident occurred a short distance away on Elm Street earlier in the morning during rush hour. A crossing guard was struck near the intersection of Elm and Garden streets. Police say the victim was fatally injured in the accident. 

"The investigation is ongoing as to what happened and if charges will be filed," Chief Ronald Campurciani stated on Twitter.
