A Belchertown man has died after he was involved in a head-on collision with a box truck on Route 202 in New Salem on Tuesday afternoon.
State troopers responded to the two-car accident at the corner of Route 202 and Route 122 at about 3:10 p.m.
Richard Marsh, 67, of Belchertown, was driving southbound in a 2014 Dodge van when the collision occurred. He was transported by New Salem EMS to Althol Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to State police officials.
The operator of the 2007 Sterling box truck, 23-year-old Raymond Phelps, of Greenfield, was uninjured in the crash.
Troopers assigned to the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and the Worcester County District Attorney's Office were on scene to investigate the crash.
New Salem police and the New Salem Fire Department also assisted at the scene. Traffic was rerouted around the location of the accident for more than two hours following the crash.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
