NORTHAMPTON, MA (WSHM) -
A chilly 30th First Night in Northampton on New Year's Eve, but the weather did not keep people from celebrating.
“It's a great time! I love being out, being able to walk from venue to venue and just a lot happening. There's a lot of nice choices, nice crowd,” said Debbie B., of Pennsylvania.
“It's like New York out here,” said Jasmin Urbina of Springfield. “There's a lot of people and just having fun!”
People were bundled up in many layers to keep warm as they enjoyed the evening. Something Meredith Young of Northampton says is necessary when watching the fireworks.
“You've got to be bundled up to stand outside and watch that,” she said.
One of the best ways to stay warm at First Night this year was to line up at Herrell's for a free hot chocolate. Owner Judy Herrell said they are expecting to go through 100 gallons of hot chocolate by 1 a.m. on New Year's Day.
First Night goers enjoyed music, fireworks and later watching the ball rise downtown.
