Huntington camp building destroyed by fire

Posted: Updated:
HUNTINGTON, MA (WSHM) - A dining hall building at a Huntington camp was destroyed by fire early Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to the camp at Norwich Lake just after 6 a.m.

Investigators say the fire started near the chimney, but they have not yet determined the exact cause.

Huntington Fire Chief Gary Dahill says by the time crews arrived, the building was already fully engulfed in flames and there was nothing they could do to save it.

It has been deemed a total loss.

Firefighters from several surrounding towns were called in for mutual aid, and they were able to keep the fire away from a 500-gallon propane tank at the site.

The building is used year-round for various programs.
