Head-on collision in Erving sends three to hospital

A head-on collision on Rt. 2 in Erving caused traffic delays and sent three victims to a Greenfield hospital Wednesday morning.

Erving Police Chief Christopher Blair told CBS 3 that the crash took place around 9:45 a.m. near Old State Road and involved a Honda Accord and a Chevrolet van.

Officers from the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Athol told CBS 3 that 57-year-old Martin Wells of Shutesbury has been charged with negligent operation, a marked lanes violation, speeding, following too close and failing to use care when passing.

Wells and two victims from the Chevrolet van were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Greenfield by Orange ambulance services and MedCare Emergency Health from Greenfield.

State Police indicated that life flight had been called to transport crash victims but was called off.

Traffic was delayed and detoured while the crash scene was being cleared

The extent of injuries is unknown at this time.
