WILBRAHAM, MA (WSHM) - State Representative Angelo J. Puppolo, Jr. toured the Wilbraham Police Department with Police Chief Roger Tucker on Tuesday.

The Wilbraham Police Department has been hosting tours for the public in efforts to show the need of a new location and building which has been an on-going process.

The purpose of today's tour with was to assess the building's condition and for Rep. Puppolo to see firsthand problems with the existing facility which was built in 1904 and has been used by the Police Department since 1980.

Tucker says the buildings foundation is crumbling and the biggest concern is safety. The current building has limited storage and space.

In addition to parking issues, several requirements set by state and federal codes are not being met because the current building is 'grandfathered', however, the department is still liable in the event of specific incidents taking place.

With the hopes of a new facility being designed for a long-term expansion, police department committee members are continuing to work on cost and location in efforts to be ready for a town vote in May.
