Police investigating fatal single-car crash in Bernardston
Bernardston Police were called to the intersection of South and Depot Streets on Route 10 shortly after 7 a.m. on Wednesday where they found a vehicle had crashed into a utility pole.
24-year-old Malerie Kidder of Bernardston was the driver of the vehicle that had crashed. She was transported to Baystate Franklin Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Mary Carey, Communications Director for the Northwestern District Attorney's Office said the Mazda sedan appeared to have been traveling north on South Street when it crossed the yellow line and crashed into a utility pole on the east side of the road.
Bernardston Police Chief James Palmeri told CBS 3 that the sedan had one person in the car at the time of the crash.
Palmeri said the Massachusetts State Police Reconstruction team was on scene for an extended period of time and was no longer at the crash site as of 2 p.m.
Traffic was delayed around 7 a.m. for both travel lanes on South Street.
According to a Trooper from the Massachusetts State Police Shelburne Barracks, one lane had re-opened for passing traffic around 7:15 a.m.
Bernardston police and fire personnel, Massachusetts State Police and the MSP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) responded the the accident.
Bernardston police are asking for witnesses of this incident to call the department directly at 413-648-9208.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
