SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) - The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad is investigating a suspicious fire that was found on Armory Street early Sunday morning.

Dennis Leger, Aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner told CBS 3 that Springfield firefighters responded to a large four story brick apartment building before 6 a.m.

Firefighters extinguished fire on the rear porches of the building at 9 Armory Street.

A brief investigation determined that a pile of clothing and trash on the wooden decking was where the fire had started.

“Wooden porches spread the growth and development of fire very quickly,” Leger said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad at 413-787-6370.
