Fire at apartment building in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) - Springfield fire crews were battling a fire at a multi-family home on Worthington Street on Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at 873 Worthington St. around 10:15 a.m.

Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the top floor of the multi-family home and could be seen from across the Connecticut River.

Fifteen people live in the home, and all were evacuated safely.

Firefighters were forced to battle the flames from the outside after the fire took control. Fire crews did have some water issues initially because all of the trucks were on the same main, but that was later remedied.

A C3 police unit was first to arrive on scene, evacuating the home and homes on either side because the heat.

Nobody was injured, but the home is a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
