Authorities have made an arrest in a 2008 cold case murder in Holyoke.
Hampden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni announced on Wednesday that Ismael Rodriguez, 22, of Holyoke, was arrested for the murder of Humberto Brindis.
Brindis was found dead of a stab wound inside his apartment at 554 South St. on June 1, 2008.
Detectives from the Massachusetts State Police and Holyoke Police Department investigated the death at the time, but were not able to identify a suspect, and the case remained unsolved.
Recently, Holyoke Police Det. Jennifer Sattler, State Police Sgt. Brendan O'Toole and personnel from the Unsolved Case Unit of the Hampden County District Attorney's Office renewed the investigation.
That investigation resulted in the arrest of Rodriguez on Tuesday.
"Although the murder of the victim, Humberto Brindis, went without answers for almost seven years," District Attorney Gulluni said, "the commitment to justice by Det. Sattler, Sgt. O'Toole, and ADA (Laurel) Brandt never wavered. Their determination and dedication deserve our appreciation."
Rodriguez is scheduled to be arraigned in Holyoke District Court on Wednesday.
