High winds cause power outages, road closures in Western Mass.

WESTFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Motorists on East Mountain Road in Westfield were detoured after a large tree fell on a truck, forcing police to completely close down the roadway.

Westfield police officials say that the tree fell at about 4:30 p.m. near 340 East Mountain Road, which is in an elevated area. The road has since reopened.

Wind gusts in Westfield reached 48 mph on Tuesday afternoon according to CBS 3 Meteorologist Nick Morganelli, which is strong enough to bring down trees.

Power outages were reported in West Springfield, Springfield, Southampton and Chesterfield due to high winds Tuesday afternoon.
