The Springfield Fire Department responded to the Memorial Bridge after police received reports of a person hanging over the side of the bridge on Thursday afternoon.
Dennis Leger, executive aide to the Springfield fire commissioner, told CBS 3 that the department responded to the scene at about 2:30 p.m.
Police, an ambulance and a Springfield Fire Department ladder truck could be seen parked on the Memorial Bridge and looking over the westbound side in an attempt to locate a person.
At about 3 p.m. a rescue boat was in the Connecticut River searching the icy waters for any sign of a person.
By 3:15 p.m. the call was cleared after first responders found no signs of a person hanging from the bridge or in the water below.
