State and local police have made an arrest in connection with the pedestrian hit-and-run accident that occurred Tuesday.

The accident occurred at about 9 p.m. at the corner of Springfield and Rowley streets. 16-year-old Alex Scafuri was riding his skateboard home from volleyball tryouts when he was struck.

Agawam police, with the assistance of state police, arrested 26-year-old Jomaris Colon, of Agawam, on Friday afternoon.

Colon fled the scene after allegedly striking Scafuri, leaving behind only a portion of her side-view mirror, which was ripped off of the vehicle because of the impact from the accident. That piece of evidence led police to the discovery of the vehicle in question shortly before midnight on Tuesday.

On Friday, Colon was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and causing serious bodily injury, operating a motor vehicle negligently, operating a motor vehicle without a license, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and obstruction of justice.

Colon was arraigned on Friday afternoon in Westfield District Court.

Scafuri was still in the pediatric intensive care unit as of Thursday evening and has been heavily sedated since the accident.

Alex's father said his son is doing well and is responsive. The family continues to spend their days at Alex's bedside.
