The University of Massachusetts introduced a new athletic director on Tuesday in the Football Performance Center on campus.

Ryan Bamford has been selected and will fill the vacancy put forth by John McCutcheon who left UMass in January after 11 years.

“Thank you for this spectacular welcome to the UMass family. I'm thrilled to be here. Go UMass,” Bamford said while closing his speech.

Bamford comes from Georgia Tech where he was an associate athletic director. He also held positions in the athletic department at Yale University for nearly a decade.

His first position in collegiate athletics administration was at Springfield College in the early 2000's.

“Being a native New Englander with my parents living on Cape Cod for 15 years and having the experience at Springfield has been great,” Bamford said. “It's a homecoming of sorts and I'm really excited about that.”
