SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

The Springfield Police Department Homicide Unit was called to investigate after an 18-year-old man was found shot dead near Calhoun Park in the city's North End neighborhood on Wednesday.

Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney identified the victim on Thursday morning as 18-year-old Kenneth Lopez, of Adams Street, Springfield.

Detectives responded to 1470 Dwight St. after a homeowner found Lopez lying dead from single gunshot wound outside of the residence at about 10:30 a.m.  Investigators have not established how long Lopez was lying dead alongside the house, Delaney said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner arrived at about 3 p.m. to retrieve Lopez's body.

The homicide remains under investigation and detectives have been working on the case "around the clock," Delaney said.

No arrests have been made.

This was Springfield's eighth homicide of 2015.
