AIC recommends students use shuttle, avoid side streets after report of shots fired

Posted: Updated:

Springfield police were called to investigate a report of shots fired nearby the American International College campus Monday afternoon.

Springfield police Capt. Trent Duda said officers were called to the intersection of Maynard and Garden street at about 5 p.m. after AIC campus police contacted Springfield police.

A text message was sent out to students and staff notifying them of the situation. The message stated that the suspects appeared to have fled in a vehicle.

The text message also suggested students utilize the campus shuttle and avoid side streets.

This comes one day after gunshots were exchanged between people in two vehicles on Oak Grove Avenue and State Street. Multiple gunshots hit the school's campus center.

CBS 3 Springfield will provide updates as more information is made available.
