Power restored following transformer explosion in Chicopee

Numerous Chicopee residents and businesses are without power after an underground transformer exploded on Tuesday morning.

The explosion occurred near the intersection Granby Street and Grattan Road at about 11:15 a.m. Power was restored to all customers by 12:20 p.m.

Police officials have asked drivers to avoid the area as traffic lights in the area are not working. 

There were no reports of any damage or injuries.
