Holyoke police ID victim of Easter Sunday homicide

HOLYOKE, MA (WSHM) -

Police in Holyoke have identified the victim who was fatally shot on Chestnut Street on Easter Sunday.

Holyoke police Lt. Jim Albert identified the victim as 30-year-old Luis Guillermo Burgos, of 534 South St., in Holyoke.

Albert said Burgos was shot once in the back during an altercation in front of 304 Chestnut St. at about 6 p.m. Officers responded, but Burgos had already been taken to Holyoke Medical Center in a private vehicle. He was pronounced dead within one hour of his arrival.

No arrests have been made, but police have interviewed numerous witnesses. The homicide remains under investigation.

The death was the city's second homicide of the year.
