SOUTHWICK, MA (WSHM) -
The J Day Offroad motocross circuit kicked off the 2015 Championship schedule in Southwick on Sunday.
The event had over 950 participants with thousands of spectators on hand for a variety of age and skill level races.
“There aren't many courses in New England that aren't rocky and rugged,” John Day of J Day Offroad said. “Somehow this place is just all sand which is sometimes the best riding you can find.”
The Southwick track has gone thru multiple changes of ownership and had struggled to consistently offer a location for races.
“Over the 40 year history it has created something about it that when anyone says ‘Southwick;' they go,” Day said.
The J Day Offroad event at Southwick is expected to be the largest enrolled race of the season. The circuit plans to return to the Southwick track in October. Also on the schedule are races in Huntington, Monson and Greenfield.
