Catie Lipscomb makes it look easy but as a student athlete with a 3.9 GPA, all her success has come as a result of hard work. Most recently Catie's soccer team went undefeated en route to a state title with Catie acting as their defensive anchor. That is an aggressive role she takes to the hardwood with her in the winter months.
“In soccer I play defense and in basketball I just love playing defense,” said Catie. “That's definitely a role that I enjoy. I love helping other people score. I love seeing my teammates get excited when they score. So I definitely try to help make it evenly scoring.”
“What Catie does a lot is a lot of things that you don't see on the box score.,” explained head girls basketball coach Paul Taylor. “It doesn't always show up in terms of assists or even steals and rebounds. She will get a tip on the ball in our press or come up from behind on somebody to tip the ball away. She makes the other team be aware of her.”
Catie's positive attitude and enthusiasm has impressed many on and off the court in Westside ands he will be taking that energy to Endicott College in the fall to start a new adventure, with a new team. However, the impression she has left on her community here will not be soon forgotten.
“She will go right from here to church and then work and you wont see any slacking in practice,” said Taylor. “She gives it her all, she isn't thinking ‘oh I have a long day ahead of me.' No, that's not Catie. She gives it her all.”
“I want to come out of this season a better person and player,” said Catie. “Learning from the coaches, taking all the advice that i can, getting me ready for college and definitely just coming out better than I came into the season.”
