A car that was traveling at a high rate of speed and struck a gas meter near a Domino's restaurant, forcing police to close the roadway and evacuate the business is still missing.

Chicopee police and firefighters responded to Jamrog Drive at about 8:10 p.m. Friday following the report of the accident, according to Chicopee police Officer Michael Wilk.

Domino's was evacuated, but the two other nearby business had already closed for the evening. Police immediately closed Jamrog Drive from Memorial Drive to Asselin Street upon arrival.

Columbia Gas also responded to the scene and disabled the gas line. The gas will remain off until piping repairs are made by one of the tenants in the building.

Wilk said the driver that struck the gas meter left the scene of the accident in a sedan with a rear spoiler.

As of Saturday morning police had re-opened the road.  The driver has not yet been found.
