Police investigating shooting on Pine St. in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Police are investigating after a man was shot Thursday afternoon in Springfield. 

Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney said that around 1:30 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the area of 91 Pine Street for a reports of shots fired and a ShotSpotter activation.

When officers arrived, they found a 46-year-old man shot.  That victim was taken to an area hospital where he is in serious, but stable, condition.

"The officers gave out the description of the shooter and he was observed running down King Street towards Tyler Street," Delaney said, adding that a short time later, police saw that suspect - identified as 21-year-old Gregory Hill of Springfield - and arrested him without incident. 

A gun was also recovered.

Hill is facing charges including assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon (firearm), discharging a firearm, carrying a firearm, and assault with intent to murder. 

Hill is being held overnight pending his arraignment Friday in Springfield District Court.
