West Springfield police are investigating a deadly pedestrian accident that happened early Friday morning on Route 5.
Police told Western Mass News that the accident happened on Route 5. The body was then dragged a few hundred feet and was dislodged from underneath the car on Fox Street.
Investigators have yet to identify the person killed, but police say it was a Hispanic man, likely in his mid 20s.
The car took off after the accident, leaving just a few pieces of evidence behind, including a headlight and part of the grill.
Police are now looking at cameras from houses in the area to investigate the accident and try to find out how this accident happened. They have narrowed down the time to somewhere between 12:30 and 4:20 a.m.
The southbound side of Route 5 was closed from McDonald's to Fox Street until about 10 a.m. Friday. this morning.. a busy road, but one police say is not prone to accidents.
"And it's interesting you don't have a lot of pedestrian traffic down in that area usually anyway. That's another thing we are trying to...once we identify this person, maybe give us a better idea where he was going, where he was coming from at that hour of the day," said West Springfield police Chief Ronald Campurciani.
Police are looking for the person and the car that was involved in this accident and asking that they come forward.
Western Mass News will continue to follow this story and will have the latest as it becomes available.
