CHICOPEE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

The Great New England Air Show has kicked off at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee and with thousands coming into the area traffic is backed up.

It's a two-day event that starts at 10 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday goes for hours into the late afternoon.

By 8 a.m. Saturday, drivers were already waiting in line for miles to get into Westover and that back up has continued at this hour.

Chicopee Police told Western Mass News they had no reported motor vehicle accidents as a result of the delays surrounding the Air Reserve Base.

Police anticipate heavy congestion as the air show concludes at 4:30 p.m.

Western Mass News will be covering the Great New England Air Show and we'll have more on the event starting at 6:00 p.m.
