SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - Homicide detectives are investigating after a 28-year-old victim was shot in the head, leaving him in critical condition Monday afternoon.

Officers were called to the intersection of Murray Hill Avenue and Franklin Street shortly after 5 p.m.

The victim, an unidentified Hispanic male, was transported to Baystate Medical Center and remains in critical condition, according to Springfield police Sgt. John Delaney.

While investigating, detectives laid down several evidence markers on Murray Hill Avenue, indicating where shell casings were recovered.

Police roped off a section of Franklin Street while more than a dozen officers interviewed nearby witnesses. A police K-9 unit searched for any clues that could lead to answers.

Furthermore, Western Mass News cameras captured a young man in a blue shirt being placed in the back of a police car for questioning.

Police have not yet made any arrests. The investigation is ongoing.
