GREENFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - State and local authorities are investigating after two people were found dead Wednesday in Greenfield.

Mary Carey, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney's office, says that around 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, Greenfield Police responded to a residence on Prospect Street for a report of two unresponsive people.

When investigators arrived, they reportedly found a 54-year-old man and a 53-year-old female dead in a bathroom in the residence.

Carey added that there were no signs of forced entry or struggle, and the cause of death for both people was "not readily apparent."

"Authorities have no reason to believe this incident poses any risk to the public," Carey explained.

The incident remains under investigation by Greenfield Police, as well as state police detectives assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney's office, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
