HOLYOKE, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Four local public safety officials were honored in Holyoke tonight. A special dinner and awards ceremony was hosted for them at the Polish Center of Discovery and Learning.

The awards were given to one firefighter, two police officers and an EMT, each of polish descent.

They were honored for their remarkable character and judgement in the face of danger.

"With all that's going on in the world in the media these days, people in the police and fire departments, we feel that they should be honored because they are the ones that are on the line every single day saving lives with all kinds of catastrophes," said Joseph Topor.

Among tonight's guests were State Representative Don Humason, Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse, and State Legislator Aaron Vega.
