A man was charged with operating under the influence of drugs after the car he was driving struck a boy riding a bike in Springfield's North End neighborhood Friday evening.
Officers arrested the suspect after they located multiple bags of heroin during their investigation, according to police officials.
The amount of heroin discovered was consistent with personal use, police said.
The boy was struck while riding on Lowell Street at about 5 p.m. His parents took him to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was expected to make a full recovery.
The suspect was charged with OUI and possession of heroin.
