Springfield Police investigating armed robbery at Walgreens

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) -

Springfield police responded to an armed robbery at Walgreens Pharmacy on 50 St. James Blvd.

Sgt. John Delaney told Western Mass News a man armed with a silver handgun jumped over the pharmacy counter and demanded employees to open the safe and lay on the floor.

"The suspect took all the narcotics including Oxycodone, Oxycotin and Percocet pills from the store and fled on foot in an unknown direction," Delaney said. 

Police are actively searching for a light skinned black or hispanic male in his late 20's to early 30's, between 5'11'' and 6', roughly 180 to 200 lbs, with blue eyes and some facial hair.

The suspect was wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants, brown boots and gloves.
